Background of the Project

Mahuli Community Development Center (MCDC) has been implementing “Up-scaling WASH systems strengthening approach in the Terai region of Nepal (NPL 1082-22)” project in Agnisair Krishana Sawaran RM, Bishnupur RM, Rajgadh RM, Dakneshwori Municipality and Saptakoshi Municipality of Saptari district with the support from BMZ/VCA/WHH. It is the continuity with phase 1 project namely “Strengthening Municipal Wide WASH Governance for Social Change in Saptari District (NPL 1060-18) “.

The project will continue 2^nd  phase (2023-2026) to strengthen WASH governance at municipal level, expanding the target area from three to five municipalities, for the provision of quality and safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services to users and with the main goal of “promoting the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation through community engagement, WASH systems strengthening and advocacy”.

The overall objective of the project is “improving the health and nutritional status of the population of Saptari districts through strengthened WASH governance and the provision of basic water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services, gender equality and empowerment of disadvantaged groups”.

1 The main goal of the Project NPL 1082 will be achieved through three specific outcomes:

Outcome 1 (micro level): The sustainable access to water, sanitation and hygiene is improved for disadvantaged communities through community-led initiatives and management.

Outcome 2 (Meso level): Municipal WASH governance is strengthened to deliver climate resilient, safe, sustainable, and accountable WASH services.

Outcome 3 (Macro level): Approaches, tools and learnings of the project are exchanged and promoted at provincial and federal level through evidence-based advocacy initiatives and knowledge sharing.
